The Seminar Series in Social Sciences and Humanities are organized by Faculties of Masaryk University in order to bring together the multiplicity of disciplines the Social Sciences and Humanities offer. Thayer: Evolution and International Relations Bradley A. Thayer, Ph.D., is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Iceland. He has been a Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Security at Harvard University and will be a Visiting Fellow at Magdalen College, University of Oxford. He has written on a large number of topics in international politics and international security, and has served as a consultant to the United States Department of Defense. His research integrates a broad range of professional interests: international politics, including international relations theory; grand strategy; United States national security policy including nuclear deterrence, cyber warfare, proliferation, and terrorism; the rise of China; NATO and transatlantic relations; and insights derived from the life sciences into political-behavioral topics, including the origins of war and ethnic conflict and the dynamics of suicide terrorism. His most recent book, co-authored with Brian M. Mazanec, is Deterring Cyber Warfare: Bolstering Strategic Stability in Cyberspace.

The Seminar Series in Social Sciences and Humanities are organized by Faculties of Masaryk University in order to bring together the multiplicity of disciplines the Social Sciences and Humanities offer. But not only the Social Sciences and Humanities. The course is offered to all Ph.D. candidates at the Masaryk University, but the number of attendants is limited to 80. IV) Marek Picha: Identification, Reconstruction and Evaluation of Arguments Marek Picha is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University. He is the author of several books focusing on epistemology, philosophy of science and methodology, namely the relevance of thought experiments in philosophical and scientific debates. His research interests also include argumentation theory and rhetoric.

The Seminar Series in Social Sciences and Humanities are organized by Faculties of Masaryk University in order to bring together the multiplicity of disciplines the Social Sciences and Humanities offer. But not only the Social Sciences and Humanities. The course is offered to all Ph.D. candidates at the Masaryk University, but the number of attendants is limited to 80. V) Eva Vetter: Languages in Education Univ.-Prof. Mag. Dr. Eva Vetter is a Professor at the Center for Research into Language Teaching and Learning and Vice-head of Center for Teacher Education at the University of Vienna. She is also President of the Austrian Association of Applied Linguistics (VERBAL). Eva Vetter is the author of various publications focusing on specific aspects of multilingualism, e.g. minority languages in France, language awareness of teachers, and teaching and learning languages in multilingual contexts. Her research interests also include discourse analysis and language policy.

The Seminar Series in Social Sciences and Humanities are organized by Faculties of Masaryk University in order to bring together the multiplicity of disciplines the Social Sciences and Humanities offer. But not only the Social Sciences and Humanities. The course is offered to all Ph.D. candidates at the Masaryk University, but the number of attendants is limited to 80. VI) Cary A. Deck: Behavioral Economics Dr. Cary Deck is a professor of economics in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas and also serves as the Director of the Behavioral Business Research Laboratory. His research uses controlled laboratory experiments to investigate a wide array of topics from market institutions to individual choice behavior. Dr. Deck’s work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Federal Trade Commission and has been published in American Economic Review, Econometrica, Review of Economics and Statistics, and Review of Economic Studies among others. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona and has been an affiliate of the Economic Science Institute at Chapman University, a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Economics in Prague, the Rasmuson Chair in Economics at the University of Alaska – Anchorage, and an Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. He currently serves as the Co-Editor for the Southern Economic Journal and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Behavioral and Experimental Economics.

The Seminar Series: I) Art of Mathematics and Mathematics of Art
The Seminar Series in Social Sciences and Humanities are organized by Faculties of Masaryk University in order to bring together the multiplicity of disciplines the Social Sciences and Humanities offer. But not only the Social Sciences and Humanities. The course is offered to all Ph.D. candidates at the Masaryk University, but the number of attendants is limited to 80. I) Jaroslav Nešetřil: Art of Mathematics and Mathematics of Art Jaroslav Nešetřil is a professor at Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. He is the director of Centre of Excellence ITI (a joint project of Charles University, Masaryk University and Westbohemian University aswell as CAV). He published in most areas of mathematics and theoretical computer science and worked at leading mathematical institutions as well as industrial labs abroad (where he was awarded twice Dr.h.c.). He collaborated with artists (J. Naceradsky) as well as philosophers (H. Damisch, M. Petricek). As the only Czech mathematician he has been invited to lecture at International aswell as European Congress of Mathematicians.
